Irish Jaunting Cart
This is an Irish Jaunting Cart that developed in Ireland about 1815. This Cart was made in Kyrl's Quay, Ireland. The body is mounted on long double-elbow springs, and the two seats are arranged lengthwise over the wheels, so that the four passengers sit back to back, with their feet resting on the side foot boards outside the cart wheels. A small driver's seat at the front is situated above the well that lies between the backs of the passenger seats. Small parcels can be carried in the well area behind the driver seat. It has brackets to hold the lamps for night use. This cart has a painted monogram with the initials CMM.
