Object Name:
Hose Wagon
This fifth wheel wagon has perforated sides to let air get to the wet hoses so that they will dry. The wagon is trimmed with brass railings and has Brass Dietz Fire King Lanterns on the sides. The Fire Hose Wagon served from 1896 until being replaced by motorized equipment in 1928. The two-horse rig carried a driver, five fireman and up to 1,200 feet of two-and-one-half-inch hose. Its function was to lay hose lines from hydrant to fire, or, on large fires, from the steam pumper to the fire.
