Wagon Land Adventure : Collections
Object ID:
WG 2011-040
Object Name:
Hook and Ladder Truck
A long wagon used for conveying fire ladders, buckets and pike poles The Firemen could also ride standing on the platform on each side between the fenders.

As America's houses added multiple stories, ladders of various sizes were needed by volunteer fire companies for access to fight the fire. Manufacturing businesses often occupied upper stories, which could only be reached by ladders.

With the change-over to motorized fire equipment, most wagons of this type were destroyed. However, many larger horse-drawn aerial wagons were converted to motor-driven equipment.
