Object Name:
California Rack Lumber Wagon
This is a rugged designed wagon with a seat high on risers and side board slats. Smaller than the giant freighters, this type of California Rack Bed wagon was also used to haul a variety of freight - including lumber and raw ore - in the Old West. This ubiquitous wagon hauled almost every kind of hauling job on the farm. Its standard wagon box could be lifted off and other types of boxes or racks put on instead. Among other things, the boxes carried potatoes; hogs; corn; boxes of apples; and sacks of grain to be hauled to the warehouses and flour mills in nearby towns.
